Jericho Board of Education proposes tax exemptions, revises code of conduct — Hempstead Real Estate news

The Jericho Board of Education has proposed four tax exemptions for residents who qualify as a surviving spouse of a police officer, volunteer firefighter or volunteer ambulance worker killed in the line of duty; senior citizens; or fully disabled veterans.  The board will hold a public hearing during its next meeting on Nov. 19 and could be voted on in December, the board said during its Thursday, Oct. 29 meeting.  While not yet approved, the proposed tax exemptions could include up to 50% of the assessed value of the homes of surviving spouses of police officers, volunteer firefighters and volunteer ambulance workers killed in the line of duty.  Superintendent Robert Kravitz said the district has not yet determined a proposed percentage for potential tax exemptions for disabled veterans or senior citizens who qualify.  He said that if authorized, the exemptions would go to individuals who qualify and who make an annual income of less than $47,000 to $58,400.  Jericho r
