Port Washington Water District to host Pharmaceutical Drug Take-Back Day — Hempstead Health news

The Port Washington Water District (PWWD) will host its eighth annual Pharmaceutical Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the district’s headquarters, located at 38 Sandy Hollow Road. This annual event was established in 2018 to provide residents on the Port Washington Peninsula with a safe way to dispose of their expired or unused prescription drugs. Keeping these potentially harmful substances out of the water supply prevents adverse effects on human health. “Last year, our residents answered the call in a big way, helping us collect 500-plus pounds of unused and expired medications,” said Water Commissioner Peter Meyer. “This year, we're challenging the Port Washington community to help us break that record. Every bottle of unused prescription brought to our collection event is one less potential source of contamination for our groundwater. We're hoping to make 2026 our most successful year yet.” Improper disposal of unused or expired medications
